A BDC shout out to North Bay small business

The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce celebrated the 30th Annual Small Business Week with an awards ceremony, Oct. 20. The cross-Canada salute to small companies and entrepreneurs is sponsored by BDC.

An Evening of Excellence awards at the Best Western Inn attracted more than 170 people to help celebrate small business successes in the region.

“The evening was an excellent way to congratulate and honour small businesses in the region,” said chamber president Sean Lawlor in a news release. “We don’t always take the time out of our busy schedules to commend all the hard work our businesses and their employees do, day-in and day-out, to make our community prosper.”

Winner of the Not-for-Profit of the Year Award went to the Business Centre of Nipissing-Parry Sound with the New Business of the Year going to The Urban Cafe
Kurt Templemans of Plat of L'Odyssee was named Student of the Year. Employee of the Year went to Sue Ortepi of Creative Learning and Annie Boomhour of Homestead Stitche was the recipient of the Young Professional of the Year.

Two Success Story awards went to Martyn Funeral Home Inc. and Cheapskates Quality Sporting Goods.
