$391,360 investment announced to help Weengushk Film Institute on Manitoulin Island

The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced the investment.

“The Government of Canada is committed to creating the right conditions for businesses to prosper and for communities to take advantage of economic development opportunities,” said Minister Clement in a press release. “In addition to enabling Weengushk to expand and create new jobs over three years, this initiative will assist students develop commercially viable projects in the North.”

Over the next three years, funding provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program will be used to develop a course curriculum, marketing and outreach programs, and a fundraising plan for the institute.

The project is expected to result in increased staffing levels and enrolment which will help the Institute grow in size, creating new business and employment opportunities in Northern Ontario.
