Small business takes centre stage in Thunder Bay

This October, BDC Small Business Week in Thunder Bay will feature an exciting calendar of events to recognize the contributions of small business in the community.

In the Thunder Bay district, small and medium-sized businesses make up nearly 97 per cent of all business.

This year’s theme for the week-long Oct. 19-23 event is: Knock Down Barriers, Dare to Grow.

There will speeches by Chicken Soup for the Soul co-author Barry Spilchuk and former Dragon’s Den panelist Bruce Croxon, founder of Lavalife and digital media/marketing guru, who will share his formula for success.

The Thunder Bay & District Entrepreneur Centre is staging an inaugural Small Business Showcase, a free trade show providing the public with an opportunity to see what new and emerging businesses have to offer.

Throughout the week, there will be workshops and seminars on finance, public relations, sales and marketing.

Some of the partnering organizations include the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission, PARO Centre for Women’s Enterprise, Thunder Bay Ventures, Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre, Lakehead University, Confederation College, SHIFT Young Professionals Network, and NIshnawbe-Aski Development Fund.
