Goldcorp chair to speak Jan. 16

Ian Telfer, chair of Goldcorp, will speak at Laurentian University in Sudbury on Jan. 16. Telfer’s appearance is part of the Goodman School of Mines’ Luncheon Lecture Series.

Described as a “compelling storyteller with a self-deprecating sense of humour,” Telfer will speak about the lessons he learned from the “top 10 mining mistakes” made throughout his career.

Telfer, who was appointed Goldcorp’s chair in 2006, also serves as chair of the World Gold Council, a role he’s retained since 2009. He has served as president and CEO of Goldcorp, in addition to chair and CEO of Wheaton River Minerals Ltd.

A chartered accountant by training, Telfer has more than 25 years of experience in the precious metals industry, serving as director or officer for several Canadian and international companies. He will be inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 2015.

Goldcorp is the world’s third largest gold producer. It has Northern Ontario operations in Red Lake, Timmins, and north of Thunder Bay.
