Sault innovators sought for annual recognition awards

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre is now accepting nominations for the 2015 SSMARt Innovation Awards . This year’s theme is Celebrating a Decade of Innovation.

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre will host its SSMARt Innovation Awards on Nov. 27.

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre is now accepting nominations for the 2015 SSMARt Innovation Awards. This year’s theme is Celebrating a Decade of Innovation.

Now in its 10th year, the event highlights innovations in science and technology, showcasing some of the best and brightest contributors in Algoma. The event takes place Nov. 27 at the Delta Waterfront Hotel & Conference Centre.

“Every year we receive feedback on how impressive the innovation and talent is within this community,” said Tom Vair, the executive director for the innovation centre. “We welcome area businesses, entrepreneurs, educators, and students to put forth nominations to help us recognize and showcase innovation achievements in the Algoma district.”

Awards will be handed out in 10 categories: Innovation Company of the Year, Innovation Educator of the Year, Innovation Leader of the Year, Innovation Project of the Year, Innovation Youth of the Year, Innovation Student/Graduate of the Year, Innovation Researcher of the Year, Innovation in Web and Social Media.

This year two additional awards will be added: Innovation in Social Entrepreneurship and Innovator of the Decade.

The non-profit Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) functions as a catalyst for economic development and diversification in the information technology and science knowledge-based sectors.
