New Sault CDC director named

Dan Friyia has been hired as the new executive director of the Community Development Corporation (CDC) of Sault Ste. Marie & Area. He replaces Brian Irwin who retired.

Dan Friyia has been hired as the new executive director of the Community Development Corporation (CDC) of Sault Ste. Marie & Area.

He replaces Brian Irwin who retired.

Fryia is spent 24 years as general manager of the Superior East Community Futures Corporation based in Wawa.

“I am excited to join the CDC team as they already have an excellent staff in place and a strong Board of Directors to provide guidance and insight into community issues,” said Fryia in a statement. “I also look forward to working with the business community and other stakeholders in building a stronger economy for Sault Ste. Marie & Area.”

CDC chairperson Janice Beatty commented that Fryia’s “extensive experience in community development will ensure that the CDC continues in its mission to help build our economy through high quality delivery of our products and services.”

Since the CDC’s inception in 1987, it has assisted some 545 business with $16.5 million dollars in loans and created or maintained approximately 2,677 jobs in the region. The organization is funded through FedNor/Industry Canada.
