United drops service to Thunder Bay

United Airlines is cutting its direct link between Thunder Bay and Chicago, effective April 24.

United Airlines is cutting its direct link between Thunder Bay and Chicago, effective April 24.

“Although we regret the cessation of any service, Thunder Bay’s connectivity to the United States continues to be well-served via either Winnipeg or Toronto by Air Canada, WestJet and Porter Airlines,” said Ed Schmidtke, Thunder Bay Airport business development manager, in a release.

No reason was given for the dropping of service by the air carrier.

United launched the service last February beginning with one daily return flight straight into its hub at O’Hare International Airport aboard its 50-seat Canadair CRJ regional jets.

The airport set a record for passenger volumes in 2013 with more than 779,000 passengers.
