Safety first at Shuniah Forest Products

Shuniah Forest Products of Thunder Bay was named a two-time winner at the Workplace Safety North awards dinner and annual general meeting held in North Bay, Sept. 17.

Shuniah Forest Products of Thunder Bay was named a two-time winner at the Workplace Safety North awards dinner and annual general meeting held in North Bay, Sept. 17.

The company was recognized as the top safety performer in the forestry category and among small firms with less than 50 full-time employees.

Lake Shore Gold Corp. of Timmins was selected in the mining category, while Kruger’s Brampton Division was selected in the Paper, Printing and Converting category.

The three companies received the President’s Award and were selected from 23 leading companies who garnered Workplace Excellence Awards in their respective sectors.

Workplace Safety North (WSN) is Ontario’s occupational health and safety expert for the forestry, mining, and paper, printing, and converting sectors. The awards recognize strong workplace safety cultures in the province and are given annually to companies that demonstrate a commitment to the prevention of illness and injury.

“They lead the way and set the tone for their sectors,” said WSN president Candys Ballanger-Michaud in a news release. “That’s why these businesses deserve special recognition, for demonstrating their strong commitment to ensuring that every worker goes home safe and healthy each day.”
