TULLOCH has been recognized for overall business performance and growth with the prestigious 2023 Canada's Best Managed Companies award.
Now in its 30th year, Canada's Best Managed Companies remains one of the country's leading business awards programs recognizing Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues of $50 million or greater for innovative world-class business practices. Hundreds of companies compete for this designation annually in an independent process that evaluates management abilities and practices.
This is TULLOCH’s first year winning the Best Managed award. To attain this designation, TULLOCH was evaluated on its leadership in the areas of strategy, culture and commitment, capabilities and innovation, governance, and financial performance.
"I am thrilled that TULLOCH has been chosen to receive this prestigious award. Our goal at TULLOCH is to build a people-first culture while providing integrated planning, surveying, environmental and engineering solutions delivered by happy and motivated experts. That motto is embedded in how the company is managed at every level. We pride ourselves in providing meaningful jobs with strong career trajectories for all our employees," stated Mark Tulloch, CEO.
"We want to build an organization where everyone loves their job, and their leaders care for them. So that's why we exist as an organization. This remains our guiding principle and is the foundation of everything we do."

TULLOCH stood out from other candidates for its commitment and success in executing its strategy, leadership, and management performance, establishing a team culture, and emphasizing employee talent development.
TULLOCH was selected for making significant advancements in innovation, consulting, planning, and monitoring. Canada's Best Managed Companies offers this award to TULLOCH as an acknowledgment of its business and management success.

By prioritizing employee wellbeing and championing professional development, these companies are harnessing their talent pool's fullest potential and in a stronger position to attract the talents needed to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead."
"CIBC is proud to sponsor Canada's Best Managed Companies, a program that has been celebrating leading organizations that are working towards building a better future for the past thirty years," said Blair Cowan, Executive Vice-President, Head of Commercial Banking and Real Estate CIBC.

About Canada's Best Managed Companies Program
Canada's Best Managed Companies program continues to be the mark of excellence for privately-owned Canadian companies. Every year since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices. The awards are granted on four levels:
- Canada's Best Managed Companies new winner (one of the new winners selected each year);
- Canada's Best Managed Companies winner (award recipients that have re-applied and successfully retained their Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review);
- Gold Standard winner (after three consecutive years of maintaining their Best Managed status, these winners have demonstrated their commitment to the program and successfully retained their award for 4-6 consecutive years);
- Platinum Club member (winners that have maintained their Best Managed status for seven years or more). Program sponsors are Deloitte Private, CIBC, The Globe and Mail, Salesforce and TMX Group.

Know the Lay of the Land
TULLOCH's 400+ employees travel over 4 million km annually to job sites across Canada.
TULLOCH operates in a roughly 2,000-kilometre stretch between Ottawa and the Manitoba border and throughout Alberta. According to CEO Mark Tulloch, running a multifaceted engineering business that covers a huge swath of northern Ontario means this isn’t cubicle engineering—TULLOCH employees travel long distances between projects and are sometimes the only engineer for a significant distance.
“Besides being willing to travel, you must be a jack-of-all-trades in the north,” says Tulloch. “You can’t be a specialist. People will rely on you to do all sorts of things that might otherwise fall to multiple people.” That’s the reasoning behind one of TULLOCH’s core values: giving freedom and responsibility to every team member. Being a generalist means operating with considerable autonomy. This company thoroughly understands its geographic situation and leverages its workforce accordingly.
TULLOCH is a multidiscipline engineering consulting company providing integrated planning, surveying, engineering, and environmental services. For over 30 years, TULLOCH has provided practical engineering solutions to both the private and public sectors. Projects range from large infrastructure assignments to private residential requests.
TULLOCH was established in 1991 as a small consulting survey practice with one office and six staff in Thessalon, Ontario. The foundation of our corporate culture guides what we do, from hiring the right people to the benefits we provide, our mentorship program, ongoing training, client relationships and connecting with our communities. Now, even after building a multidisciplinary team of more than 400 people who love their jobs, our commitment to building a caring, people-centric culture remains stronger than ever.
