Five cottages on the island; the Main Lodge, Log Cabin, Play Cabin, Indian Cabin and Pointe Cabin can comfortably accommodate twenty. Pointe is sited on a severed 7-acre lot on the eastern shoreline.

THE MAIN LODGE

Dating from 1905, the main lodge was originally built as a summer retreat for managers of Canada’s largest lumber camp in nearby Britt. Situated overlooking the harbour the 11/2 storey, 5 bedrooms, 2500 sq.ft. the lodge has been meticulously restored preserving all the warmth and charm of a bygone era while enjoying the comfort of every up to date convenience.

The galley kitchen has wonderful views over the harbour. Streamlined and efficient it offers generous tile-topped counters and ample storage space with wooden built-in glass-fronted cabinets. Immediately off the kitchen, a lovely breakfast room opens onto a rear deck overlooking the interior of the island. Lunches and evening Barbeques are often taken Al Fresco on the deck.

Of three main floor bedrooms, one has a queen-size bed and a three-piece bath with shower, a second with two beds and an adjacent 3 piece bath, and a third has a single bed. A staircase leads to two-second floor bedrooms, a large bedroom with two double beds and a smaller dormer bedroom.

The supremely comfortable living room is anchored by a massive dry-stone wood-burning fireplace. Opposite the fireplace is a library/study area with floor to ceiling bookshelves, a library ladder and a writing desk. Large upholstered sofas and armchairs create conversation areas around the fireplace and invite cozy lounging. French doors lead to the front verandah.

The Beautifully proportioned dining room is filled with antique pieces including a central refectory table and hanging brass chandelier. Windows and French doors along the entire length of the dining room allow access to the covered verandah and stunning views to the water.

LOG CABIN

Originally from Eastern Ontario, the log cabin was dismantled and rebuilt on its current site near the southwest point of the island. The 950 sq.ft. cabin has a large living room with high vaulted ceiling creating a loft area accessed via a spiral staircase. A floor to ceiling stone wood-burning fireplace warms the entire structure. The master bedroom is immediately adjacent to the living room and a subsequent addition houses a 5 piece bath and an up to date kitchen. The vantage point from the log cabin affords dramatic sweeping views over the Bay with the La Cloche mountains visible in the distance.

INDIAN CABIN

Indian Cabin is a charming smaller cabin with a double brass bed, comfortable sitting area, 3-piece bath and a deck which wraps completely around the structure taking advantage of wonderful views over the harbour.

POINTE CABIN

Point Cabin has one bedroom, a full bath and a wraparound deck. A severed 7-acre lot, it is on the highest point of land on the eastern shore of the island, it enjoys superb views, with Britt lighthouse clearly visible in the distance.

PLAY CABIN

With a screened porch, large living room, three bedrooms, and 3 piece bath, Play Cabin can comfortably accommodate six to eight.

THE AREA

Byng Inlet is the gateway to some of the finest boating and fishing in North America. Day boating excursions to Bay Finn, Killarney or Little Current are highlights for guests.

Local guides are available for fishing outings for various game fish - bass, pickerel and muskellunge and for the classic Georgian Bay shore lunches.

THE LOCATION

One hour from Toronto by floatplane or three hours by car via Hwy#400/Trans Canada land Bigwood is just 10 minutes by boat from the local Britt marina. The channel is wide and deep ensuring safe passage in any weather and a low-lying island to the northwest creates a natural, sheltered harbour.
