Timmins is one of the top places in Canada to do business.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) released their annual rankings of cities and their entrepreneurial activity and strategies.
In the “Communities in Boom” report released Oct. 21, Timmins ranked 12th nationally, up from 39 in last year's rankings among 107 large and mid-sized cities.
That's music to the ears of Timmins Mayor Tom Laughren.
“These figures confirm the economic growth and optimism that Timmins has continued to see in recent years,” said Laughren in a news release. “To rank 12th in a pool of 107 municipalities reinforces the fact that Timmins is 'top of mind' for many when it comes to our booming economy and the many investment opportunities that exist as a result.”
The report said the Timmins business community is more optimistic about government regulation, and more satisfied with the municipality's awareness of small business needs. Those are specific issues that Timmins Chamber of Commerce president Phil Barton said his advocacy group has been working diligently on. He's pleased that Timmins businesses are responding “with growing confidence in their ability to grow and thrive. This is a great place to do business, and we certainly agree it's one of the very best in Canada.”
