A leaders’ forum will be held in Timmins on Dec. 6 to advance the objectives of the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario.
The Northern Leaders’ Forum will bring together Northern municipal, Aboriginal and community leaders as well as key government ministers.
Released in March 2011, the Growth Plan is designed to guide provincial decision-making and investment over the next 25 years. Areas of focus include diversifying the region's traditional resource-based industries; stimulating new investment and entrepreneurship; and nurturing new and emerging sectors with high growth potential.
Current initiatives advancing Growth Plan priorities include revised Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. programs to support regional economic development; development of a Northern Ontario multi-modal transportation strategy; establishment of a Northern Policy Institute at Lakehead and Laurentian universities; and investments in infrastructure for Lakehead University’s new Faculty of Law and Laurentian University’s new School of Architecture.
