Timmins city council hopes a provincial regulation will stop Globex from shipping mined talc-magnesium to Quebec for processing.

Companies are required to obtain the signature of the minister of Northern Development and Mines to be exempt from provincial regulations regarding the transportation of resources across borders. Globex, a company that is looking at conducting a feasibility study to develop an open-pit mine in Timmins, is proposing the development of a smelter in Quebec.

The City of Timmins would like to see both the smelter and mine developed in Timmins.
