Timmins gearing up for 2018 Canadian Mining Expo

Tradeshow, networking event slated for June 6-7

The 2018 Canadian Mining Expo will take place June 6-7 in Timmins.

Hosted by Canadian Trade-Ex, the annual event attracts visitors from around the globe who spend two days learning about the mining industry in Timmins and the surrounding area.

The event features a number of events and activities, including:

VIP mining social: a night of camaraderie, networking and socializing with some of the most influential people in the industry. Invitation only.

Education and career fair: a forum for employers to meet with and inform students, teachers, parents and members of the general public about careers in mining.

Aboriginal forum: speakers will offer insight into the process of establishing impact benefit agreements (IBAs) between Indigenous communities and mining companies.

Prospecting course: the course will offer an introduction to rock identification, mineral deposits, structure, geophysical surveys, understanding maps, prospecting methods, the Mining Lands Administration System, option agreements, and more.

Gala dinner: featuring guest speakers Alan Coutts, president-CEO of Noront Resources; Steven Bowles, project manager of IAMGOLD’s Côté Gold project; and Marc Lauzier, mine general manager at Goldcorp Canada Ltd.-Porcupine Gold Mines.

Investor forum: a series of guest lecturers will speak about their experience in the mining industry.

Additional activities will include a tradeshow with industry exhibitors, a jackleg drill competition, equipment demonstrations, a miner’s barbecue, and more.
