A family-owned Timmins building supply business will now carry the banner of a Québec-based company.

Feldman Timber, which has operated in Timmins for close to 110 years, will soon operate under the banner of BMR Group, which owns 300 home renovation centres and hardware stores in Québec, Ontario, and the Maritime provinces.

The companies announced the change on July 8.

"Our goal is to be the leader in our marketplace. BMR offers the most complete program in order to allow us to grow our business,” said Lorne Feldman, the fourth-generation owner at Feldman Timber.

“With competitive pricing, integrated distribution, exciting new products in many categories, and a dynamic marketing program, BMR provides us the tools to give our customers an exceptional shopping experience along with great value.

“This will help make us the preferred destination for all the construction and home improvement projects of our customers.”

Feldman Timber traces its origins back to 1904, when three brothers immigrated to Timmins from Russia, establishing lumber camps and mills, and eventually the building supply store.

BMR said the 23,000-square-foot Feldman Timber store would undergo major renovations shortly to update its façade and interior.

“We are pleased to welcome Feldman Timber in our large family. This is the second new BMR store in Ontario this year,” said Pierre Nolet, BMR’s vice-president of business development, in the release.

“Our mission is simple and intends to provide Timmins citizens with our significant expertise while making BMR their new destination of choice for renovation projects.”

BMR Group is a subsidiary of La Coop fédérée and is headquartered in Boucherville, north of Montréal.
