Northern College in Timmins has started its search for a new president and CEO.

The school announced on Feb. 21 it has selected Phelps Group Inc. to head the search for its new leader.

“The Phelps Group is an experienced executive search firm with expertise in successfully recruiting senior academic administration for post-secondary institutions across Canada,” said George Pirie, who chairs the search committee and Northern College’s board of governors, in a statement.

“We look forward to working with them as we move forward in the next phase of recruiting.”

The next steps involve holding consultations with the college and the community to gather input on the profile of skills, qualities, and experience for a new president-CEO.

Current Northern College president Fred Gibbons, who has helmed the school since 2009, announced last fall he would be retiring, as of June 2020.

The college is aiming to have a new president in place by the start of the academic year in September.
