A heavy equipment repair business in Timmins found a unique way to celebrate a few milestones this week.

While COVID-19 kept people from gathering at Timmins Mechancial Solutions' (TMS) expanded shop, a virtual ribbon-cutting marked the occasion. During the celebration, TMS president Chad Tolonen also officially inked a new deal to be the Northern Ontario dealer for SANY Canada.

Located in the west end of the city, the new 12,000-square-foot shop features seven bays, has two 10-tonne bridge/cranes, and a 24-foot door clearance that can accommodate large equipment such as Cat 785 trucks or 992 loaders.

"With the expanded facility, we will be able to significantly increase our capacity to undertake large-scale repairs and refurbishments of all makes and models of equipment while introducing customers in Northern Ontario to the SANY brand," said Tolonen in a news release.

"This new dealership reflects a natural extension of the company's mission, resources, and technical expertise into areas that complement our current heavy equipment repair and refurbishment services."

SANY Canada's senior vice-president and country manager, Suman Mukherjee, said the company is excited to expand its product availability to companies and contractors in the region.

"Our partnership with TMS has come at the right time as we expand our investments and reach in Canada though the establishment of the Canadian subsidiary with the setup of the Canadian head office, parts warehouse machine yards, and a local Canadian team focused on serving the Canadian customers," he said.

Timmins MPP Gilles Bisson congratulated Timmins Mechanical Services, saying the business has been on a growing pattern since it started.

"In your title you talk about solutions, and I think you demonstrated in the middle of a pandemic about how we need to adjust to what’s going on in the world around us,” he said, adding it's the first time he's done a virtual opening.
