A new task force in Timmins wants to help local businesses navigate their way back to prosperity as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold.

The City of Timmins and the Timmins Chamber of Commerce have partnered to launch the Business Continuity and Recovery Task Force.

The Chamber has added a special section to its website, which will be updated regularly with recommendations and expertise on best practices.

“The purpose of this group will be to mitigate the impact that COVID-19 has on our city’s business continuity and our workforce,” Chamber president Val Venneri said in a March 30 news release.

“This will include actions such as sharing best practices, addressing business disruption plans, sharing employee communications, and other resources from public health authorities, and discussing how to support our local, small business.”

Areas of focus include government assistance measures and programs, small business support, exporting and trade, employment and legal issues, transportation, and any additional issues they are experiencing.

The task force is comprised of various stakeholders and business support organizations in the community including the Venture Centre; FedNor; the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development, Mines, and Indigenous Affairs; the Downtown BIA; the Timmins Economic Development Corporation; as well as Mayor George Pirie, MP Charlie Angus, and MPP Gilles Bisson.

“The situation is continually evolving, and our overall goal is to create a readiness channel for all Timmins businesses – to help them be prepared to develop, where possible, a consistent communication and response plan to COVID-19,” Venneri added.
