The design team of ANO Architects and B. H. Martin Consultants Ltd. has been picked by Timmins city council to develop plans for the long-awaited new library and health-coalition centre.

The architects believe the proposed 25,000-square-foot venue can be delivered within budget guidelines at a cost of $154 per square foot, $11 cheaper than the city's original estimate.

The energy-efficient building will have more ventilation, more natural lighting and adequate parking, combined with the prominent use of local wood manufacturing products.

Both firms will consult with Beckwin and Associates of Waterloo, a design firm specializing in libraries, as well as confer with community groups over the next few months for design input.

The city expects construction on the centre will begin next spring.
