Northern College will begin offering the Mining Engineering Technician program at the Porcupine Campus in Timmins in September.

In a March 4 press release, the college said the program was started as a direct result of employer demand.

“We constantly assess and evolve the content and delivery of our programs to match industry demands,” says Northern College President, Fred Gibbons. “Offering the Mining Engineering Technician program at our Porcupine Campus demonstrates that Northern is responding to the needs of our students and employers. Attaining an elite post-secondary mining education in northeastern Ontario is now more accessible than ever before.”

The college said students enrolled in this program will complete common courses with other technical students at the Porcupine Campus. Courses will be offered through “flexible and interactive online delivery” for both direct entries and for thosee in the mining industry looking to upgrade.

The Haileybury School of Mines program will continue to be offered at Northern’s Kirkland Lake and Haileybury campuses.

Since 1912, more than 2,000 students have graduated from the legendary mining school and pursued careers in mining across North America and the world.
