A proposed talc mine could create 80 jobs in Timmins within five years if about $12 million US can be raised for a feasibility study. Globex Mining Enterprises Inc. is confident an estimated 100-million tonne magnesite-talc deposit in Deloro Township will eventually be brought into production. A $125-million US mine-mill complex would be built, creating more than 80 direct jobs, providing funds are raised and government approvals given. Some exploration work has confirmed what some earlier work done on the site by Noranda concluded in the mid-1980s. The project would produce 90,000 tonnes of magnesium metal annually. At that production rate, the ore body would last more than a century.
