A new national marketing initiative will be aimed at promoting Kapuskasing, and other surrounding communities as tourism destinations. The province recently invested $460,395, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, to assist in the promotion of tourism in the area and to improve health-care services. Of the funds, $203,525 will go toward the Kapuskasing economic development team and the district chamber of commerce, along with regional tourism partners, to develop a marketing campaign that focuses on local attractions, like festivals and tours, as well as regional attractions like the Shania Twain Centre in Timmins and the Cochrane Polar Bear Express. Upgrades to the Kapuskasing Nordic Skiers' network of ski trails will also be made. Funding will also go toward a capital equipment renewal project at the Sensenbrenner Hospital and expansion of health-care space.
