Training in heavy equipment operation and commercial driving developed by Northern College in Timmins will soon be available through Cambrian College in Sudbury.

The two colleges will sign a memorandum of understanding cementing the collaboration. Training is provided through a partnership with Valley Driver Training, which is based in Hanmer (in Sudbury).

“Our partnership with Valley Driver Training has allowed us to provide access to high-quality, in-demand training for the residents of northeastern Ontario,” said Bob Mack, Northern’s vice-president of community, business development and employment services, in a news release. “We’re pleased that our new partnership with Cambrian College will allow us to provide access to the very same training in the Sudbury region.”

Training is available to the public as well as employers who want to develop their workforce.

Students can train towards a variety of licence tests, and get operator training for heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, graders, loaders, rock trucks, skid steers and forklifts.
