FedNor has given $500,000 to the Cochrane and Area Community Development Corp. for the development of a new tourist attraction.

The CDC plans to develop a pioneer village as part of a new regional tourist attraction.

“It will enhance and complement the appeal of the Polar Bear Express train to Moosonee and Moose Factory, attract tourists to the region and provide employment for local residents,” Ben Sierre, Timiskaming-Cochrane MP, said.

The pioneer village will consist of five time-period buildings, a welcome centre that includes a reception area, a coffee and gift shop, an exhibition area and administrative offices.

FedNor’s contribution will assist in the construction of the pioneer village and the welcome centre, including an access road, parking lot, site services and architectural fees.
