Industrial development, mineral exploration and cleanup of contaminated properties along the coastal communities of James Bay are among projects to be discussed during upcoming community planning sessions with coastal community First Nations leaders. Team leaders, with representatives from community futures development corporations, and the communities of James Bay, including Peawanuk and Fort Severn, will hold community planning sessions in the near future as part of regional strategic planning. The last regional economic plan was completed in 1994, which identified potential projects for economic development and a number of community issues. The cleanup of 17 contaminated radar bases south of Moosonee, returning properties back to their natural state, are on the slate of projects anticipated to come out of the economic plan.
