Bombardier Inc. has received $60-million contract to manufacture 22 commuter rail cars for the Montreal transit authority.

The manufacturing of BiLevel cars will start in Thunder Bay at the Bombardier transportation facility with final assembly and commissioning to be completed by CAD Railway in the Montreal borough of Lachine.

“The BiLevel car is the design of choice for transportation authorities in Canada and in the United States with more than 700 cars in successful operation in 10 cities around the continent,” says William Spurr, president, Bombardier Transportation, North America.

Currently Los Angeles, Seattle, Toronto, Miami and Vancouver are just some of the provinces, cities and states where the commuter rail car are in operation. The design offers 70 per cent more passenger area than single-leveled rail cars with 30 per cent savings in operation.
