An official with Canada Safeway is not holding out much hope for the company’s future in Thunder Bay, and says it is up to the Ministry of Labour to intervene in the labour dispute. The Oct. 31 labour board meeting is too long for the company to wait, and the board has said that it will not declare another contract vote, an official says.

Safeway’s final contract offer was rejected by employees on May 7 by a margin of six votes. On June 6 the company announced closure of its three stores in Thunder Bay.
