Outfitters in northwestern Ontario have lost a bundle of money due to torrential rains in June that washed out highways. And their industry association is blaming the province for not making alternative routes available. Officials with the Northern Ontario Tourist Outfitters Association say the province has to upgrade highways in the region so roads are not always washed out by severe weather.

NDP leader Howard Hampton has weighed in, saying the Ministry of Transportation and Municipal Affairs must make changes in road construction, bridges and culverts to prevent further road closures, personal property losses and lost revenue for tourist outfitters.
