Canadian National Railway re-established its line between Thunder Bay and Fort Frances in late June after severe flooding washed out some sections. The 370-kilometre line was shut down June 10 after flooding caused 35 washouts, some as long as 300 metres.

Crews had to rebuild track beds, reinstall drainage systems and signal lights. In the interim, Thunder Bay-bound freight was rerouted to Sioux Lookout, then back south along the CN line along the Lake Nipigon corridor.
