Synfuel Technologies is in the process of doing some environmental testing to assess whether to build a petroleum-coke power plant in Thunder Bay. An independent company has begun burning different ratios of chemicals in Tulsa, Okla. An official with Thunder Bay Hydro says Synfuel is testing three different supplies of petroleum-coke in an attempt to determine the cleanest result.

Synfuel is expected to begin construction by the fall; therefore, results are to be published as soon as experiments are complete.
