Following on the heels of Air Canada's recent layoff announcements, the mayor of Thunder Bay is requesting northwestern Ontario residents boycott Air Canada's new low-cost carrier, Tango.

Air Canada is seeking a bailout from Ottawa, yet is competing with private low-cost carriers like WestJet and Canada 3000, Mayor Ken Boschcoff points out. Boschcoff questions why Air Canada does not lower rates, rather than compete with other low-cost carriers. Air Canada laid off six full-time employees and 19 part-time employees at Thunder Bay International Airport in mid-October.
