An American company is considering opening a call centre in Thunder Bay that would employ a potential 450 people. The company, Young America, is looking to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. for funding of $800,000 to help develop the call centre. The facility would have up to 350 workstations, and in peak seasons the company would operate 12-hour days. The abundant labour pool in Thunder Bay and the support from the city, are two main reasons Young America believes the call centre will be a success.

It is said the company is in the final stages of processing the lease agreement with a Thunder Bay landlord and wants to be up and running as soon as possible.

The news of the potential centre in Thunder Bay follows a decision earlier this year by Thunder Bay's Superior Telecom to terminate its operations in Kenora and Thunder Bay.
