Thinking of opening your own business? Need some help? Read on. Thunder Bay’s Confederation College has partnered with Productive Publications to publish a series of books dealing with entrepreneurship and small business development.

“(Entrepreneurs) make a lot of common mistakes over and over again,” says Graham Clayton, director of the Institute of Global Entrepreneurship and Electronic Commerce at the college.

Clayton says under-financing, not doing their homework and a lack of management skills are just a few of the mistakes that entrepreneurs make when starting out.

With the help of small teams of college staff, Confederation College has written The Entrepreneur and the Business Idea, Business Planning and Finances, Small Business Finance, Starting a Business Relationship, Development and Maintenance and Youth Entrepreneurship.

All six books are on the market and can be purchased at the college, through Productive Productions or online.

Clayton says the books are “easy reads,” and straight-forward so that anyone can understand them.

Confederation College’s expertise in entrepreneurship and small-business development over the past 20 years has gained them national and international recognition.

The college has done small-business management training in Paraguay, is in its seventh year of training in the Ukraine and 10 years in Poland.

The college has been writing about business on an ongoing basis for its own use and decided it would be a good idea to make the books available to the public because of the lack of education surrounding entrepreneurship.
