The City of Greater Sudbury is forging ahead with the next phase of its wind farm project by partnering with Northland Power Inc. and REPower Wind Corp.
After agreeing to a tentative deal earlier in the spring to pursue the $86-million wind-powered electricity generation project, the partners will negotiate the terms of a joint venture for a feasibility study. The city received proposals from 20 firms, including British Energy, Suncor, Mitsubishi and Siemens, but the city went with a Germany-Sudbury consortium created by REPower Systems AG and Sudbury's Consbec Group and Gagnon Renewable Resources Inc.
City officials predict construction could begin by 2003.
