Modern Mining and Technology Sudbury is set to host its annual week-long showcase of all things mining in the Sudbury Basin, starting Friday.

Everything you wanted to know about mining is being showcased this week with a variety of activities.

Modern Mining and Technology Sudbury (MMTS) is hosting its annual MMTS Week running April 12 to 18.

The week kicks off with a gala luncheon featuring a guest speaker at Bryston's on the Park April 12.

For those curious about mining service, there are bus tours of the Sudbury Basin April 13 and 14 departing from Dynamic Earth. Each tour is roughly two hours long and includes passes to The underground mining centre and Earth sciences museum.

The MMTS Showcase will be running again April 14 at the New Sudbury Centre featuring displays from businesses, education centres and industry on the future of mining and the latest advancements.

Students from Grades 4 to 12 will be getting plenty of educational experiences with Discover Sudbury Field Day. A Discover Sudbury Geology Bus Tour and Dynamic Earth Experience. They will learn about how the geologic history of the region and how mining shaped local history and the economy.

High school students will test their skills at the MineOpportunity Challenge on April 15, where they will answer questions and take part in hands-on activities.

On April 16 science North is hosting a Science Cafe at the Taphouse Northern Grill and Pub at 7:30 p.m. This public event will include discussions with speakers on the challenges of going deeper underground to feed demand for mineral resources.

April 17 and 18 will be dedicated to teacher workshops to help them incorporate mining into their curriculum, while MMTS volunteers lead Grade 4 to 8 students in mining-related activities including tours at Dynamic Earth.

There will also be a tour of NORCAT on April 17.
