NORCAT was established in 1995 as a non-profit corporation by Cambrian College to provide mining companies and local businesses with services such as product design, prototype development, applied research, technology diffusion and training.

"The region's mining companies also benefit from the project through the use of new technologies created by local businesses, and the testing of new processes in NORCAT’s facilities," says Nickel Belt MP Ray Bonin.
