The first Evening of Recognition, hosted by Green Economy North, will be held on April 20 in Sudbury.

Sudbury group Green Economy North is seeking nominations for Environmental Champion of the Year to recognize environmental sustainability.

The award will recognize individuals in Sudbury that are working to improve their organizations’ environmental sustainability. Green Economy North has put the call out to business operators and institutions looking for nominations.

“The environmental champions in our community are making their Sudbury business, institution, or not-for-profit organization more sustainable,” said Leigha Benford, communications and events coordinator for reThink Green, in a release.

“We count on them to take the lead, to come up with new ideas and see them implemented.”

The Environmental Champion of the Year will be awarded at Green Economy North’s first annual Evening of Recognition on April 20. This event will be Greater Sudbury’s ‘green gala’ and will celebrate the efforts and achievements of Green Economy North members — organizations working to reduce their carbon footprint. Admission is free, and will include live music, refreshments, and a cash bar.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the nominations,” Benford said. “We know there are some great candidates in the community and we want to honour them.”

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, March 24 at 5 p.m.
