Sudbury councillor to sit on municipal advisory board

Sudbury’s Councillor Dave Kilgour has been elected by his peers to sit on the board of directors for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).

Sudbury’s Councillor Dave Kilgour has been elected by his peers to sit on the board of directors for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM). The FCM represents more than 2,000 Canadian municipalities, forming a broad base of support and carrying the municipal message to the government of Canada.

The election took place June 2 at the annual FCM conference in Vancouver. Kilgour was nominated by Greater Sudbury city council to run for the position earlier this year.

The roughly 70 positions on FCM’s board of directors are filled by election annually, with the exception of those designated for affiliate members and the immediate past president.

“This is an important opportunity to represent our city and allow our voice to be heard,” Kilgour said in a statement. “I’m proud to have been given this opportunity, and I thank Mayor Matichuk, my fellow councillors and staff who helped me win this appointment.”

As a member of the board of directors, Kilgour said he will apply to sit on sub-committees focusing on infrastructure, economic development and planning issues.
