Ricus Grimbeek steps down from Vale

Sudbury-based chief operating officer leaves after less than 10 months

Vale Canada's Sudbury operations announced chief operating officer Ricus Grimbeek has stepped down from the position as of Feb. 25.

He had been the chief operating officer for Canada, the U.K., and Asian Refineries since May 16, 2018.

Angie Robson, director of corporate affairs and sustainability, North Atlantic Operations and Asian Refinerie,s confirmed Grimbeek was no longer with Vale in an email response to questions.

“In his short tenure with Vale, Ricus has made a significant contribution to our business, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” she stated.

Robson added a replacement would be named in the coming weeks.

Ricus, a mining engineering of more than 30 years, has worked in senior management positions for South 32, a global mining company, as its chief technology officer, chief operating officer, and president.

He’s also worked stints in senior operating and safety roles for BHP Billiton and Lonmin in Canada, Australia and his native South Africa.
