Young mining professionals from around the world are eyeing Sudbury as a place to call home.
“We do have a number of people coming into the city who are professionals going to work for Falconbridge or Inco,” Luke Smith, president of the Sudbury Real Estate Board says.
Professionals from Australia, Dominican Republic and Africa and southern Ontario, between the age of 28 and 35, are building new homes in the Greater Sudbury area.
Low interest rates, limited resale homes and good economic conditions are fueling housing starts in the area.
“Even the cost of new construction is not turning people away. That is how good it is.”
Dalron Homes sales and marketing manager and associate broker with Royal LePage, Kristi Arnold, says most of the activity is being witnessed in New Sudbury, Garson, Valley East and in the city’s south end.
Arnold estimates real estate business has had a 10-per-cent increase compared to last year’s numbers and finds her clientele are in their mid 30s and early 40s.
