More Influential Women winners announced

Influential Women award winners from northeastern Ontario were recognized today during a Sudbury ceremony at the Radisson Hotel. The event was hosted by Northern Ontario Business and Union Gas.

Brenda Tremblay of Sudbury, the chief operating officer of Science North, was named executive of the year.

Kelly Timmermans, of Little Current, president of Manitoulin Radio Communications, was named entrepreneur of the year.

Katie Bevan of North Bay, owner of the Fashion and Art Retail Market (FARM), was named young entrepreneur of the year.

Laurel Ashick-Stinson of Sudbury, a Grade 12 Lasalle Secondary School student, was named the aspiring achiever essay scholarship winner.

Award winners from northwestern Ontario were held on June 3 in Thunder Bay.

Winners there included executive of the year Tracy Buckler of Thunder Bay, president and CEO of the St. Joseph’s Care Group; entrepreneur of the year Erika Maki of Thunder Bay, owner of A Spa For You Inc.; and young entrepreneur of the year Bianca Garofalo of Thunder Bay, owner of Bight Restaurant and Grill.

The Influential Women of Northern Ontario program, launched in 1997, seeks out, honours and profiles women in Northern Ontario who contribute to the North’s economic success and expansion. More than 100 influential women have been recognized since the program’s inception, and the roster of award winners continues to grow.

This year’s panel of judges included Patricia Aspin-Lecour, executive director for the NECO Community Futures Dev. Corp. in North Bay; Laurie Bissonette, a partner with KPMG LLP Chartered Accountants in Sudbury; Barb Courte, president and CEO of Northstar Drilling and Cobra Drilling in Thunder Bay; and Dawn Willoughby, executive assistant of the Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund in Thunder Bay.
