Sudbury's mining expertise is in the spotlight this weekend as part of a conference on the industry in Africa.

The Economic African Renaissance (E.A.R.) will be holding its second annual conference Sept. 8, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Willet Green Miller Centre Auditorium and will focus on education and community engagement in the mining industry in Africa.

Education and mining experts like Oumar Toguyeni, regional vice-president of IAMGOLD West Africa, and Youssouf Gningue, chair of the Department of Mathematics & Computer Sciences at Laurentian University, will be sharing their knowledge and vision on how to foster strong partnerships with local communities in Africa. A Q&A and a networking session will be also scheduled to allow the audience to engage with the professionals on site.

Partners in the conference include Laurentian University, IAMGOLD West Africa, Mirarco, The City of Greater Sudbury, among others.
