A coalition of Northern Ontario city mayors held their first meeting in Sudbury in mid-February.

The meeting included Sudbury Mayor David Courtemanche, North Bay Mayor Vic Fedeli, Timmins Mayor Vic Power, Thunder Bay Mayor Lynn Peterson and Sault Ste. Marie Mayor John Rowswell.

The group identified common issues of concern for Northern Ontario communities such as out-migration, economic development.

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) and the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA) annual general meetings this spring will be an opportunity for municipal leaders to come together to discuss the issues and develop an action plan, Courtemanche says.
