Lack of private-sector interest in convention centre project (4/02)

Some Sudbury city councillors are not happy with the private sector's response to a local convention centre.

Some Sudbury city councillors are not happy with the private sector's response to a local convention centre. The city spent about $4,000 on a national newspaper advertising campaign to get private-sector interest to form a partnership with the municipality to develop a convention centre.

So far, no one outside of the region has expressed an interest in the project. The owners of the City Centre Mall, and one other company, were the only groups interested in the proposal.
