Killarney gets funds to develop growth strategy

Federal funding of $22,500 will help Killarney establish a community development and growth strategy.

Federal funding of $22,500 will help Killarney establish a community development and growth strategy.

The funding will help the municipality identify and capitalize on economic opportunities, and attract new private sector investment to the area, positioning the Killarney region for long-term economic success, according to a release from FedNor Minister Tony Clement.

Once complete, the plan will help maximize the economic potential of the local waterfront development area by promoting the community’s inherent strengths to encourage businesses to locate, update or expand their operations in Killarney.

“I welcome and appreciate this strong show of support from the Government of Canada and FedNor,” Killarney Mayor Morgan Pitfield said in the release. “Today’s announcement will provide our community with an economic roadmap that will guide future investments and help us build a stronger, more diversified local economy.”

The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which support projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
