Health Sciences North Research Institute received a bump in funding from the federal government to help encourage entrepreneurs to develop products for the sector.

In a news release the Government of Canada announced they are committing $100,000 to encourage entrepreneurs and industry professionals to pursue product development opportunities within the healthcare sector. The initiative aims to connect entrepreneurs with clinical trials and product testing opportunities to help create and bring new medical products and healthcare solutions to the global marketplace.

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, was joined by Marc Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, to make the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor. Specifically, the FedNor funding will enable HSNRI to complete a feasibility study and develop a new technology platform entitled Population Health Ecosystem for Ontario’s Northern and Indigenous Communities.

"This funding announcement will help our researchers, clinicians and regional partners transform health research in the north. This is an example of health innovation that will improve health equity for northerners, seniors and indigenous people," said Dr. Denis Roy, President & CEO, Health Sciences North Research Institute

The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
