CTV executive Scott Lund is leaving the broadcaster to take the CEO’s job with SW Sports and Entertainment (SWSE), the parent company of the Sudbury Wolves Hockey Club, as of June 5.

Lund, a 30-year veteran of BellMedia and CTV Northern Ontario leaves the position of vice-president and general manager covering Sudbury, Timmins, North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.

He currently chairs Science North, Cinéfest Sudbury’s International Film Festival, and was the past chair of the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation.

Lund also sat on the board of the Health Sciences North and most recently served as an advisor to the Wolves and True North Strong Event Centre Development, an arena proposal launched by Dario Zurich, owner of the Wolves.

“I am extremely proud and excited for Scott to join our executive management team at the highest level,” said Zulich, owner of SWSE, in a May 31 news release. “Scott brings the experience, energy and passion needed for the further development and execution of the strategy to achieve our vision. His management style is the opposite of mine, therefore complementary. I am more confident than ever that SWSE now has the perfect leadership mix to drive us to the next level of success.”

“This project has the potential to change the entertainment landscape for the entire community and I am excited to get to work, roll up my sleeves with the team and build SWSE into the potential it has,” Lund said in the release. “This is an unparalleled opportunity, something that has never been seen before.”

Zulich purchased the Wolves in late August 2016 and has been steadily lobbying for a new event centre called True North Strong to be located on The Kingsway, which he first proposed in late November 2015.

The announcement comes on the heels of the Wolves introducing former NHL player Cory Stillman as its new head coach, as well as Zulich's purchase of the Sudbury Spartans football team and the launch of a new, yet unnamed National Basketball League franchise.
