Black Friday comes early in Sudbury

Heritage Fund pours $9.6 million into film production, high-tech, small business

Embattled Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault became the bearer of good news on Nov. 24 in spreading $9.6 million of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund’s largesse into film and TV production, mining-related technology, high-tech and small business support.

The biggest winners were the producers of Glowbies Inc., a children’s animated TV series, which received $1.5 million.

Legend Boats pocketed $1 million to expand its boat building business, creating eight jobs in the process.

More than $940,000 went to MIRARCO Mining Innovation to help that research organization in the development of a “long-term sustainability model.”

Bristol Machine Works scored $817,500 to upgrade and automated the mining equipment manufacturing company. Sixteen jobs will be created.

A half-million dollars each went for two film production companies in HP Honor Productions and Grim Trigger Productions.

Skyline Helicopter Technologies used its $437,993 to buy new equipment and tools to service Sikorsky and Bell helicopters.

Activated White is commercializing a new environmental cleanup and spill product with the $406,891 it received.

Other mining-related company recipients included Mansour Mining Technologies, Crystal Green Energy, Renewable Resource Recovery, Electrale Innovation, Symboticware, KE2 Technologies, K4 Integration and Clickmox Solutions.

Additional money went into business expansions at Cardiovascular CRO, ECM Automation Networks, Dura 21 and Black Rock North Media.

More funds went to a slew of companies and organizations to support internships.
