The college announced in a news release it recently received an award for its programs from Electricity Human Resources Canada at the organization's annual awards banquet in Toronto.

Cambrian earned the Award of Excellence for Innovation in Resource Practices in the Education category.

“We were recognized for our excellence in training students in our Power Line Technician, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Techniques, and Power Engineering programs,” said Phil Adams, chair of Cambrian’s Schools of Skills Training.

He added the award was a result of a lot of hard work by staff and faculty at the college along with community partners including Vale Canada, Electrical Power and Transmission Construction and Gezhtoojig Employment and Training in Sudbury.

“This award reinforces our strategic goal of receiving national and international recognition for excellence in education.” said Bill Best, president of Cambrian College. "Cambrian constantly punches above its weight – and people across the country are taking notice.”

The Powerline Technician Program at Cambrian College is the longest-running program of its kind in Ontario and has been recognized for providing the highest rated and sought-after graduates in the industry.

The award was established to recognize and celebrate, at the national level, an educational or training institution that has developed or implemented curriculum, educational or training programs that address the workforce supply needs of the electricity industry by ensuring that students and/or employees have the required skill sets.
