Architect, mining exec to receive doctorates

A distinguished architect and a mining-industry executive are amongst six recipients who will be bestowed with honorary doctorates from Laurentian University this spring.

A distinguished architect and a mining-industry executive are amongst six recipients who will be bestowed with honorary doctorates from Laurentian University this spring.

Douglas Cardinal, an internationally renowned master builder, who has been a guest speaker at the Laurentian School of Architecture, will be recognized on June 5 in Sudbury.

Sudbury-born Peter Crossgrove, a mining-industry veteran who currently serves on the board of Laurentian’s Goodman School of Mines, will also be recognized on June 5 in Sudbury.

Other recipients include social entrepreneur Craig Kielburger, recording artist Susan Aglukark, French-language advocate Jean-Marc Aubin, and author Marguerite Andersen.

“We are proud to be able to acknowledge these distinguished Canadians with their diverse backgrounds and various gifts,” Laurentian Chancellor Steve Paikin said in a news release. “Each of them has enriched our lives and communities through their contributions and we are honoured to welcome them as Laurentian Alumni.”
